Drumstick Sorter
A drumstick falls in the receiver from the upstream machine, a logo printer. The stick advances along a walking beam to a number of stations. A microphone picks up the tap, tap, tap of the hammer, and an FFT program analyzes the waveforms to find the pitch of the stick. Weight, balance and pitch data are printed on the stick, and it is delivered to one of 36 bins. Reject sticks are dumped into a wastebasket.
